The 2025 edition of Ojika Artist in Island, developed by Studio The Future, focuses on Ojika as a living archive. Under the theme “Shapes and Sounds of Life,” the program explores how memory, material, and voice intertwine to form the island’s identity and cultural continuity.
The central work is a video installation by Studio The Future, with architectural support from Group (Tokyo). The exhibition includes a metal lamp by Group, symbolizing Ojika and the year’s theme, and a Hinoki wood object designed by Studio The Future and crafted by Maeda Woodcarving Studio ( 木彫前田工房 ). Together, these works combine photography, sound, and material research in collaboration with the Ojika Board of Education, the History and Folklore Museum, and local residents.
In parallel, Marieke Peeters presents a new Obakeyashiki (Haunted House) in the Awabi-kan, continuing her exploration of folklore and collective imagination.
The program culminates during the Ojika Chōmin Bunkasai (October 26, 2025) with the presentation of the installation and the publication of the Ojika Artist in Island Archive (2019–2025). The project will then travel as a mobile exhibition to Sasebo, Hasami, and Tokyo, sharing Ojika’s layered stories with wider audiences.
Shapes and Sounds of Life (the book), designed and published by Studio The Future, will be officially launched at the Tokyo Art Book Fair (December 2025). Six photographs by Natsumi Ito, directed by Studio The Future, appear in this year’s posters for the exhibition.
2025 年 8 月 – 11 月、Ojika Artist in Island は Studio The Future によって企画・開発され、「生命のかたちと響き (Shapes and Sounds of Life) 」をテーマに進行しています。本年度は小値賀を生きたアーカイブとして捉え、記憶・素 材・声がどのように重なり合いながら島のアイデンティティと文化的継続性を形づくっているのかを探ります。
中心となる作品は Studio The Future による映像インスタレーションで、空間構成には Group (東京) が建築的サポートを行っています。展示には、小値賀と今年のテーマを象徴する GROUP 制作の金属製ランプそして Studio The Future がデザインし、木彫前田工房がヒノキ材で制作した木製オブジェが含まれます。これらの作品は、小値賀町教育委員会、歴史民俗資料館、地域住民との協働により制作され、写真・音・素材リサーチを通して、記憶と風化、そして継承のあり方を考察します。
同時に、マリケ・ピーターズはあわび館にて新たなお化け屋敷を発表し、民話や集合的想像力に関するリサーチをさらに発展させます。
本プログラムは、2025 年 10 月 26 日の小値賀町民文化祭にて、インスタレーショ ン作品と『Ojika Artist in Island Archive (2019–2025)』の出版をもって集大成を迎えます。その後、佐世保・波佐見・東京へと巡回する移動型展覧会 (モバイル・エキシビション) として展開し、小値賀の重層的な物語を広く発信していきます。
書籍『Shapes and Sounds of Life』は、Studio The Future によりデザイン・出版され、2025 年 12 月の Tokyo Art Book Fair にて正式に発表されます。また、Studio The Future のディレクションのもと、イトウナツミが撮影した 6 点の写真が、今年の展覧会ポスターにプレビューとして使用されています。
